The process is rewarding; not only does it force you to reflect on what is crucial and why, but the end result is beyond what you could ever imagine. When I returned, a former English scholarship winner and colleague told me she believed the experience to be 'life changing' and she couldn't have been more correct.
If you ask any university student studying to be a history teacher why they wandered down such a path, 9/10 times they'll talk about their high school teachers. I know I still think back with fondness of mine- those who inspired such a love for history and historical investigation. These people who came before us created and contributed to a long tradition of sharing and cooperation that I believe we, in the profession, have a responsibility to add to and continue. What better time could there be than now, with a new curriculum and resources begging to be discovered?
The scholarship is sponsored by the HTA, which is, as you'll know, an amazing organisation that supports and assists History teachers in this state. This is a chance to indulge a passion and share it with our community and i can't recommend strongly enough that you get involved.
